Sangha Kitchen at the Retreat Land in PemakodPresently, there isn't an adequate or sufficiently outfitted Sangha kitchen on the retreatant land. Three-year retreatants have been using the small kitchens that are attached to their cabins. However, visiting practioners or short time retreatants presently have to come down to the lower retreat land to prepare meals or to participate in group meals. This necessitates interacting with others on the land, and even sometimes with others from Yoldong and surrounding villages. This is the exact site where the kitchen will be built. If some retreatants wish to maintain strict silence or isolation, it is currently difficult for them to do so. By constructing a modest but adequately-appointed sangha kitchen, retreatants who wish to remain in isolation for the duration of their retreat on the land may do so. Therefore, having a dedicated sangha or retreatant kitchen is crucial to maintaining or preserving a container or boundary for both visitors or short-term retreatants. For this reason, we will construct a simple but wholly functional kitchen on the upper retreat land near the retreat cabins and Bhakha Tulku Rinpoche's bamboo house and the daily practice gompa. The kitchen will have two partitions -- one solely for cooking and/or preparing food and the other a separate small dining area in which retreatants can sit and eat their meals, either individually or communally with other retreatants, or just enjoy the panoramic view of the landscape.
What We Need for the Sangha Kitchen:All construction materials for the outer two-room structure, plus all utensils necessary to outfit a simple but fully functional kitchen (pots, pans, serving plates, a small propane stove for heating water for tea, water source, and solar power). Please join us in the last phase of the retreat land restoration by improving facilities for heartfelt practitioners who visit or live on the retreat land.
